Eden Boys’ Leadership Academy, Bradford
Building Momentum With Industry Expertise
In September 2025, Climate Ambassadors Lewis and Nazar – both surveyors specialising in decarbonisation at BTG Eddisons – were invited into Eden Boys’ Leadership Academy in Bradford to help Headteacher Robina and Sustainability Lead Rosina develop the school’s Climate Action Plan (CAP). As an Ofsted Outstanding secondary school, the academy already had many sustainability-focused initiatives in place, but they were keen to bring everything together into a coherent, forward-looking CAP.
“We are passionate about embedding sustainability into every part of school life, not only to meet national expectations but because we have a responsibility to our pupils and wider community. Working with partners such as Yorkshire Millenium Trust, Grow to School and now Eddison’s through the Climate Ambassadors programme has allowed us to turn ambition into action. Each partnership has helped us build momentum, develop staff confidence and make real, practical progress on our climate journey. The Climate Ambassador scheme has been invaluable in bringing expert support into school and helping us move forward at pace.”
— Rosina Noor, Assistant Principal and Sustainability Lead

Utilising Industry Expertise
This whole journey began when Nazar, who is also a governor at the academy, shared information about the Department for Education’s expectation that schools develop a climate action plan and appoint a sustainability lead. Drawing on his role as Head of Sustainability and Decarbonisation at BTG Eddisons, and his involvement with the Climate Ambassadors scheme, he brought this insight directly to Rosina and Robina and invited apprentice surveyor Lewis along.
Together, they captured what the school was already doing, identified future priorities, and shaped the first draft of the CAP using the Climate Ambassadors template. The result was a clear, practical roadmap built directly from rich, collaborative conversations.
“The Climate Ambassador programme is brilliant. Our team have found the experience very rewarding and fulfilling, giving us the chance to give back to our communities and learn about the difficulties that our education sector is facing in implementing key aspects of sustainability.”
— Nazar Soofi, Climate Ambassador and Head of Sustainability and Decarbonisation at BTG Eddisons
Through his work at BTG Eddisons, Nazar has been instrumental in driving a national partnership encouraging colleagues like Lewis to join the Climate Ambassadors scheme. This initiative supports schools while also giving employees valuable personal and professional development opportunities.
“It’s been really rewarding to support Eden Boys’ Leadership Academy with their CAP, especially knowing how stretched teachers already are. If we can help take some of that pressure away while still making meaningful progress on climate action, that feels like a positive use of our time. Working alongside schools in this way shows what collaboration can achieve. From joining the scheme, I have a better understanding about the small and low cost/free wins that schools can take to be more sustainable.”
— Lewis Evans, Climate Ambassador and Apprentice Building Surveyor with BTG Eddisons

Exploring Green Careers
Following the CAP work, Lewis and Nazar returned to the academy during career week to speak with pupils about their own green career journeys. They shared insights from their roles at BTG Eddisons and inspired students to explore the diverse and fast‑growing opportunities within the green sector.
“We are moving forward in a green industrial revolution. Renewable energy is now outpacing fossil fuels in global energy markets, corporations are increasingly prioritising their climate credentials, and society is demanding that climate action sits firmly on the agenda for the benefit of future generations. As a result, we must equip the next generation with strong climate knowledge and practical skills. These capabilities are already in short supply, and demand continues to grow. As in any sector, those who are prepared and ready to apply these skills will be the most sought after. This is the future we are preparing the next generation for.”
— Nazar Soofi, Climate Ambassador and Head of Sustainability and Decarbonisation at BTG Eddisons
Eden Boys’ Leadership Academy will continue working closely with BTG Eddisons and the Climate Ambassadors team over the coming months, and their progress promises to be exciting to watch. BTG Eddisons remain fully committed to the Climate Ambassadors programme and are collaborating with national and regional teams to train more volunteers to support education settings across England.
