‘The Climate Ambassador programme is brilliant. Our team have found the experience very rewarding and fulfilling, giving us the chance to give back to our communities and learn about the difficulties that our education sector is facing in implementing key aspects of sustainability’

– Head of Sustainability & Decarbonisation, BTG Eddisons

Climate Ambassadors is commissioned by the Department for Education to offer free support from trained volunteers to help education settings develop and deliver impactful climate action plans. Our Climate Ambassadors are drawn from a wide range of professional bodies, businesses, public sector and community organisations. For individuals and businesses, this represents a unique opportunity to engage in impactful, skill-based volunteering. Participating in the Climate Ambassadors programme not only supports the next generation of environmental leaders but also demonstrates a commitment to social value, sustainability and your local community.

Why Get Involved?

Climate Ambassadors offers a structured way for individuals, businesses and organisations to support education settings in England to take sustainability and climate action as well as supporting their own development.

Who is this for?

Everyone with enthusiasm and interest! Becoming a Climate Ambassador is an effective way of using volunteering time.

Climate action plans are whole-institution approaches and cover adaptation and resilience, biodiversity, climate education and green careers and decarbonisation within early years settings, schools and colleges. An enormous range of roles and sectors can make a contribution, whether it is technical support focussed on carbon reduction with estates teams, procurement teams looking at sustainable supply chains with business managers, project management and comms teams working on strategic planning with leadership, or individuals committed to supporting sustainability initiatives in their local communities to mention a very few.

What we will cover:

The session will be held on MS Teams.

‘I signed up as a Climate Ambassador because I see this role as a great opportunity to put my passion and expertise in sustainability into practice in educational settings other than my place of work. I also appreciate the flexibility of the role due to working from home most of the time, meaning that I’m able to participate in several activities online rather than in-person only.’

– Environment Officer, East Midlands
