Volunteers

Climate Ambassadors support education settings with developing and implementing their climate action plans by providing a range of support and expertise through their volunteering activities. From students and academics in climate or sustainability-related subjects, to corporate sustainability, project management, fundraising and governance professionals, Climate Ambassadors are adults in the local community, looking to contribute their expertise and provide quick, tailored and free support where it matters most. Could you be one of them?

“In July 2023 I shared an example of a climate action plan and had a discussion with the headteacher about the type of activity at the school that may be appropriate to go on to their plan. There were several examples that this conversation brought up. For instance, the imminent installation of solar panels at the school, the desire to reduce waste, the development of the forest school, and various ways to bring sustainability into the curricula. The school then committed to developing an action plan by November 2024. This helped focus how their approach to sustainability could connect to existing plans for curriculum development.”

Getting started as a Climate Ambassador

  1. Complete the initial interest form;
  2. Receive an email from your Regional Hub Manager and complete the registration steps, including signing up to the STEM Learning platform, getting your DBS check and safeguarding training (30 mins);
  3. Attend the ‘Getting Started as a Climate Ambassador’ core training (1.5 hours);
  4. Review activity requests from education settings on the STEM Learning platform, look out for tailored requests from your Regional Hub Manager, and stay in touch through networking sessions or other voluntary training.
